Brand stories are SO important. I suppose (in theory) there must be some business or industry out there that doesn't need one, but I haven't come across one yet! In fact, if a client were to come to me and ask for just one thing (perhaps because funds are limited), the brand story would be a strong contender.
That's because brand stories often form the foundation of a business's overall marketing efforts and messaging. It communicates the brand's origin story, mission, and values in a way that builds trust and promotes engagement, which is always a good thing when it comes to marketing.
Although the brand story may sometimes function as a distinct entity (for instance, on an "about" page), it also informs other copywriting. It may appear in pieces or in different versions in ads, on the landing or sales page, in email sequences, and more.
I’m TJ, founder of 454 Bags and 454 Bags No Trace. I never saw myself as an eco-warrior or earth nut. I’m just a small-town, big-grow cannabis farmer. But when you’re in the agricultural sector, it’s impossible to ignore the plastic crisis facing this country–the whole world.
The cannabis industry alone generates more than 300 million pounds a day–just us. Just cannabis, a relatively small niche of American agriculture. And all that plastic stays with us. Forever. Plastic doesn’t break down–it just turns into microplastics, which eventually end up in our soil, our water, our food, and our bodies. Researchers have found microplastics in human placenta, for goodness sake.
We’ve had enough.
That’s why I started 454 Bags back in 2019. And why we are now launching 454 Bags No Trace.
We started in 2019 with 454 Bags, which were made from a cleaner plastic that’s 100% curbside recyclable. At the time, that was the quickest way we could make a difference. The cannabis industry standard for storage bags and liners is nylon, which is not only the dirtiest plastic to manufacture but also completely non recyclable.
454 Bags was a huge success, but we didn’t stop there. We got an exclusive agreement with a USDA Bio-preffered bioplastic factory and kept working behind the scenes to find a real alternative to conventional plastic.
Now, 3 years and $250k later, we’ve done it. We’ve come up with a true bioplastic–one that’s actually usable and universally biodegradable, which is basically impossible to find.
Most bioplastic products aren’t as usable or convenient as regular plastic simply because research and development is expensive, and most bioplastic companies haven’t made that investment. But we did.
We put in the time and money and research, and we DO have something that’s as good as regular plastic. In fact, it’s better. Our bioplastic is…
-Landfill biodegradable. Unlike other bioplastics, you can just toss this right in the trash (no need for a “properly maintained compost unit” or other special conditions).-100% oxygen barrier. That means whatever you’re storing–cannabis, herbs, spices, even meat–will stay fresh and yummy, with no browning or loss of quality.-Antimicrobial and antibacterial-STRONGER than conventional plastic. Better tear and puncture resistance means not only better performance but less waste.
If we can just get this bioplastic on the market, the possibilities are endless. Not just in the agricultural industry but everywhere. In our homes, in our schools, at every level of our society. We could create a future where our kids don’t grow up drowning in plastic outside their homes and inside their own bodies.
It’s not like we did the impossible - anyone could have done what we did. No one else did simply because it doesn’t make sense financially. R&D is expensive, and there’s no way to recoup those costs without a heavy price tag on the end product. But not enough people will buy that product when plastic is so much cheaper. It seems like an impossible situation, and it is…without help from the outside.
You can be that for us. With your help, we CAN provide the public with a viable alternative that they can afford. We can develop and launch products that could one day completely end our reliance on plastic, and do it at a price point that is actually accessible to consumers. So please–help us get these products out there so we can put plastic in the past where it belongs.
At Milo, we know better than most just how difficult it is for patients to access and navigate their care. The healthcare industry is an absolute minefield of obstacles, from finding trustworthy providers to managing appointments. Even a task as simple as filling a prescription is complicated by hidden costs and bureaucracy.
Under the conventional healthcare model, your number of options grows or shrinks along with your budget…and your tolerance for frustration. Milo was born to change that. Our mission has always been to give patients MORE access for LESS money and NO hassle.
These days, that includes access to COVID testing. In March of 2022, Medicare announced that its recipients are entitled to 8 COVID-19 home antigen tests per month as a covered benefit. Unfortunately, many people are unaware that they have this benefit under Medicare. Those who are aware either don’t know how to get their tests or find it too difficult and inconvenient to bother. So, in keeping with Milo’s philosophies, we’re here to put the power (and those tests) in your hands without a fuss.
The pandemic turned the world upside down, but life goes on. We at Milo are here to get you the care you need quickly and easily, so that you can stay safe, active, and engaged with your family and community. Because you don’t just need to get well. You need to live well, too.
I’ve been teaching martial arts for over thirteen years. I love it for so many reasons, from its beauty as an art form to its physical and mental benefits. And my son, Apolo, seems to have inherited my passion. I started bringing him to the gym with me when he was only 9 months old. After a few weeks, I was amazed and tickled to see him trying to follow along with the moves I was teaching my older students.
So I started teaching him, too. It seemed ridiculous at first–I mean, come on! A baby doing karate? But he was really doing it! Even at one, he could throw kicks and strikes and said HI-YA! Other moms couldn’t believe what they were seeing, and they asked if their infants and toddlers could join in, too.
I added an infant and toddler class to my lineup, and it was a raving hit with kiddos and moms alike. Together, we found that when my tiny students entered the inevitable “hitting” stage, karate provided a fun, healthy outlet to help them deal with big feelings. Children struggling with sensory issues became less volatile and better able to cope.
Because of my son, I stumbled on a true solution for hitting behavior in infants and toddlers as well as a whole host of other benefits including fine and gross motor skills, balance, cognitive skills, and discipline.
I started the Baby Kickers home program to provide easy access to these benefits anywhere in the world. Now anyone can train a miniature martial artist in the comfort of their own home and bond with their child in a fun new way.
